Dental Vs. Orthodontic Insurance: Know The Difference

We will discuss the difference between dental and orthodontic insurance plans. First off, with dental, there is a replenishment that happens on an annual basis. However, with orthodontics, there is solely a lifetime maximum in insurance that does not reset each annual year. Instead of orthodontics, each patient receives a lifetime maximum…

This means that unlike most insurance coverage, which has annual maximum benefits that renew each year, orthodontic benefits are usually lifetime maximums. This means that once a patient has used the benefit, there is no more, and it will not renew.

The general outline would look like this: If a patient goes through multiple phases of orthodontic treatment like some youth do, whatever insurance benefit is used in the first phase, will reduce what is left for the second phase of treatment.
